In this Bathroom remodel we helped our client leave the 1990’s and come into a space that was not only more current, but was closer to their aesthetic. Welcome to our Serene Moss project!
Here is where we began
We started with a bathroom that had really low cabinetry, soffits above the vanity that encased florescent lighting, a cave for a shower that was leaking, and the biggest water jet tub that no one dared to sit in with the moldy jets.
In some designs the layout stays the same. However, we like to start every bathroom with NKBA standards and a really good underlayment. We use Schluter (pictured below) for the water proofing system throughout the entire bathroom so there would be no more leaking issues. On the floors we used Schluter’s Ditra heat for the warmth of heated floors. You can see how the heat element is wrapped and protected in the orange coils.
The client has a lot of great color throughout their home and when they showed us a very white bathroom for inspiration, we knew it was a safe direction, but would not reflect their personal style.
We always render 3D drawings to show the options and- when they saw the green tile that was in this soft mossy color, one of them actually said, ‘Are we being boring with white tile?’ We all laughed and from then on the color palette started to bubble forth. I have to say the finished design absolutely represents them!
The Design
We designed the custom cabinetry and chose a warm white oak in a natural oiled finish to compliment the green. We used brass tones for faucets and fixtures and for added texture placed a woven light over the tub. We ripped out the soffit over the vanity and created a new lighting plan on the ceiling as well as sconce lighting near eye level by the mirrors. This provides the best light for getting ready in the morning.
Over by the tub and shower, we opened up the cave shower and expanded the footprint a bit and allowed glass shower walls to lighten and brighten the entire room. For the tub, we went with a simple shaped soaking tub.
The client loved these Turkish tea towels (seen below in the after photos) and hand knotted antique rug show off our client’s well-traveled style and reflect who they are.- warm and inviting! This space is very serene- a true calming and peaceful getaway!
