Welcome to Monarch Lane Interiors! We are a full-service Interior Design firm located in Nashville, Tn. Serving clients locally and beyond. We help homeowners love the spaces they live in with a harmony of function and beauty. The story of the butterfly relates strongly to the transforming path to great design. We accomplish this with our professional design education, signature process, and online design studio. And as fate would have it my initials also make a butterfly ;-)
The Chrysalis Chronicles is a Design Blog giving you a Behind the scenes look into the process, inspiration, and projects we encounter as a Design Firm. Hope you enjoy!

Entry Way -Where there is NO way

to the trade

This project sits on a gorgeous piece of property with a forest surrounding it and stunning hilltop views. With the homeowner being a craftsman himself, this home was anchored in natural materials and elevated with complimenting finishes.

Below is the floor plan of where we began. You would enter the main Kitchen through the Dining room or a hallway. On the other side of the U-shaped Kitchen was a bank of bookcases and desk. Then following this area was a little room that almost could be called a sunroom, but only a couple of windows. The weird thing is that while one door went outside, the opposite door went to their Primary Bathroom. We knew right away, we were going to wall that door off and give them more privacy in that Bedroom suite.

Adjacent from the Kitchen was a sunken living room beyond some walls and big post that was in the middle of the peninsula. This made these spaces very closed off from each other and some areas didn’t feel purposeful.

The Before

The New Plan

In the new plan we opened up all the walls and brought up the height of the living room to create one big open concept. In order to get rid of the column, we had a laminated beam installed along the middle. Then for aesthetics, we added beams along the Living Room side.

The Kitchen was relocated to the “sunroom” side to take advantage of the views of the backyard. We added an island with seating to ground the Kitchen area and put a casual dining space near the new sliding doors and back terrace. In the living room we added a window to let more light in and so the homeowners to enjoy the scenery. It feels like you are in a tree house when you look around. This project has been one of my favorite transformations this year!

The Design

Here are some renderings of how we designed for this project.

The Afters!

While we didn’t help with the furnishings, only the construction, we did give them a furniture space plan. I love the clean lines on the pieces they went with and our client MADE THIS TABLE!

It is a stunning piece of art!

We hope you like this transformation! Let us know what your favorite part was.

Builder: McKenzie Construction – such a great experience with them!
