Windows and walls are often the most overlooked heroes of Interior Design, yet they play a crucial role in shaping the ambiance, functionality, and comfort of our living spaces. Whether you’re a homeowner, renter, or office dweller, the right window and wall treatments can make a world of difference.

From enhancing privacy to adding style and personality, these often underestimated elements deserve our attention. Let’s review why investing in quality window and wall treatments is a decision you won’t regret.

ENHANCED PRIVACY- Window treatments like curtains or shades offer increased privacy, especially in urban or densely populated areas. Sometimes privacy is needed for changing clothes, restrooms, and more!

LIGHT CONTROL – Window treatments allow for better control of natural light entering a room. You can have a sheer shade or curtain panel to allow some light to flow through. You can also block all light with blackout lining. There are a lot of benefits to blocking harsh sunlight from coming in. You can protect your furniture and artwork from fading. Also having the ability to adjust light levels will improve your ambiance and productivity.

TEMPERATURE REGULATION – Window treatments can also help to regulate room temperature by blocking drafts in the winter and reducing heat gain in the summer. This can lead to energy savings and increased comfort year-round.

AESTHETIC APPEAL– Window treatments enhance the overall aesthetics of a space! We can use pattern to add a punch of color, or simply give a soft texture. A well-chosen treatment can compliment a room’s decor and add so much style and personality.

SOUND INSULATION- Certain window treatments, such as lined curtains and shades can help reduce noise pollution from outside sources. This is particularly beneficial for homes located near busy streets or in more urban settings. The fabric added to your walls also helps to absorb sound within a room, giving more privacy within your home’s spaces.

PRIVACY FROM NEIGHBORS – It is important to maintain privacy from neighboring homes, especially in close- proximity residential areas. You don’t have to completely block out the light, but keep onlookers from peering in. People are nosey! We like to suggest layers of window treatments that give you the option to let in light or close off completely, but to still have privacy either way.

ENHANCED SECURITY– Window treatments can serve as a deterrent to potential intruders by concealing the interior of the home from view. You can even have your window treatments that have the added security to be motorized and integrated into smart or home integration. That way if you are not home, you can have your window treatments set to lower at sundown and other times.

PERSONALIZATION & EXPRESSION– While wallcoverings add the same sound-absorption quality that window treatments do, they both offer as an opportunity for self-expression and personalization within your home. There are a variety of colors, patterns, and textures available. In the above photos we used this floral wallpaper up a stairwell and landing area. What a fun way to enjoy a space that you would normally just pass through.

A PULLED TOGETHER LOOK-For a cohesive and inspiring look, you can even match the wallpaper and fabrics in a room. The home office above is a great example of how this was achieved. The impact of color and pattern are undeniable.

ADDING WHIMSY -Powder rooms are a fun place to pack a huge personality punch! We love a fun and whimsical paper that shows off a client’s individuality.

PROTECT WALLS– Sometimes wallpaper can add a layer of protectant. The elegant paper in the powder room above was a commercial grade vinyl. This makes clean up in bathrooms or laundry room easy.

ARTWORK -Wallpaper can also be thought of as artwork. In this teen space above we added wallpaper to the wall behind the sofa and behind the media unit.

ADD DIMENSION -When we added wallpaper to this bookcase door, it added the color and dimension we were looking for. The grass cloth below allowed us to add a soft color and textures without a ton of pattern.

We hope you will see the importance of addressing the windows and walls of your home. At Monarch Lane, we will suggest window treatments and when it is the right fit -we will also suggest wallcoverings that both enhance the practicality and overall aesthetics of your home.
